Aston Villa starlet reveals shock at Premier League opportunity

first_img Jordan Lyden 1 Aston Villa youngster Jordan Lyden has revealed how surprised he was to be named in the most recent first-team squad. The Australian Under-20s star was called up by Remi Garde for the defeat to Arsenal last weekend – despite the struggling side making a raft of expensive signings in the summer.“I was speechless when I found out I was in the 18-man squad. I didn’t know what to think,” he continued.“I’d initially been with the Under-21s – playing the games and training with them. All of a sudden I was called in to train with the first team so that was obviously great.“I have trained with them every day for the last two weeks. I still didn’t feel I was in contention to be involved in a game – that was the last thing on my mind. I was focused on working hard.“But then once the squad got named and I was in there, I couldn’t believe it.“It wasn’t the best result but it was a proud moment for me. It felt surreal. To walk out at Villa Park and look around at all the faces was incredible. It didn’t feel real.“When I warmed up on the touchlines the fans gave me a lot of encouragement and support which really helped me.“The players have welcomed me in, too. I have felt comfortable, which is the main thing because it is quite daunting for a young player moving up into the seniors.“It’s been a real adventure for me. I have moved over from Australia and left my family – but ever since I was young I’ve wanted to a footballer and play in the Premier League.”last_img read more
