North west set to be the worst affected by Storm Caroline

first_imgDonegal is set to feel the biggest impact of Storm Caroline today as strong winds and snowfall strike the county. Atlantic Storm Caroline is due to pass over Ireland today and bring severe weather. Two status yellow weather warnings have been placed by Met Eireann – including a wind alert and snow-ice warning.North and northwest counties will be most at risk of snow showers which will occur later today. Snowfall is expected throughout Thursday night and into Friday morning, bringing possible accumulations of up to 3cm in areas, more likely on higher ground. Icy conditions are forecast right through to Friday afternoon. Motorists are urged to take care on the roads.Severe winds are expected in Donegal throughout today, with gusts of up to 100 to 110 km/h and winds strongest at the coasts and higher ground.Donegal is in for a cold few days. Temperatures are expected to fall as low a 2 degrees this evening and reach lows of -2 degrees tonight.Friday is set to be a chilly day too as the winds ease and occasional wintry showers fall.
