Success As A Coach
People often wonder why some coaches are successful at a certain school while others are not. It usually has nothing to do with his or her knowledge of the sport that they are coaching. Most of the time it is the situation that presents itself. Some coaches simply don’t fit into the community. Through no fault of their own, their background differs so much from the community they are in that they simply can’t find their niche. To be successful, you have to sell your program to the young men and women you are coaching. In some cases, you may be too gruff for your athletes. In other cases, you may not be tough enough. There are many little things that come into play. You may be trying to replace a legend or you may enter a program that is so down that a John Wooden couldn’t succeed. As I stated earlier, the biggest thing about coaching is fitting into the program. If I knew the answer, I would write a book on it.
